Catholic Minister shot dead in Pakistan

For all those who follow the Catholic News, must have read the article about Shahbaz Bhatti . We also had, today he was shot dead. News link - here.
May his soul rest in peace. We definitely need more 'bold' people like him, may the good lord turn us into one.

Shahbaz Bhatti, a Catholic and Pakistan’s minorities minister was shot dead for his movement against Pakistan's Blasphemy law.

“I have been told by pro-Taliban religious extremists that if I will continue to speak against the blasphemy law, I will be beheaded,” Shahbaz Bhatti

Bhatti, a Roman Catholic, is fearless, “As a Christian, I believe Jesus is my strength. He has given me a power and wisdom and motivation to serve the suffering humanity".

“I follow the principles of my conscience, and I am ready to die and sacrifice my life for the principles I believe,” he said.


As a Pakistani member of parliament he had focused his political efforts on defending minority rights. He embraced the Catholic religion as a child, and counts on Christ in order to fulfill his new duties.

Shahbaz Bhatti was Minister for Minorities and belong from Pakistan Peoples Party.

On Wednesday March 2 2011 Gunmen shot and killed Pakistan government minister for religious minorities, the latest attack on a high-profile Pakistani figure who had urged reforming harsh blasphemy laws that impose the death penalty for insulting Islam. Shahbaz Bhatti was on his way to work in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, when unknown gunmen riddled his car with bullets.
